I have never really played an instrument except in sixth grade but I do not think that counts. I played the clarinet in sixth grade and I remember playing the titanic song and being extremely excited about it : ) . Other than my sixth grade experience, I have never really had any other musical experiences except for going to concerts and actually listening to music. I am an organization called L.A.T.I.N.A.S. (Ladies Actively Taking Initiative through Networking, Academics and Social justice) and some of the girls in that organization are in LASA which put on a dance troop which is extremely good. I listen to many types of music from bay area to mariachi and I hardly ever buy cd's I download from the internet : ) . I do sing alot even though I am a horrible singer. I sing in the car, shower, going to class, in bruinwalk, at the club, basically everywhere because I love music. My favorite thing to do is sing along with mariachi because I remember my parents doing that since I was young. Unlike myself, my father has a real strong and nice voice and he would always sing along with mariachi.
Other than the fact that this class is a GE, I wanted to take this class because I wanted to become familiar with music around the world. I have noticed that I limit myself to Latin American music and hip hop. I want to be able to hear a broader range of music and actually know the background about the music. I would actually want to learn more about Latin American music however, I use to live in Guatemala and I remember my family use to always play marimba in parties so that is type of music that I would would be interested in learning this quarter.

Hi Lissett,
This is a fine length for your blog. It's really for you to express your thoughts on the class. Do you have any video/audio of the marimba playing that your family did? Could you find something to bring in to share with the class when we cover the music of South America?
